I am pregnant and will be bottle feeding. I am a student and I cannot leave my classes to go pump in the middle and it will just not work to breast feed. Please do not bash me for that. I would like some opinions on the best powder formula for a newborn baby. I do not want to use the ready made kind as we cannot afford to do that right now. So what did you use? Any recommendations? Thanks! What is the best powder formula for my baby?
I've done my share of arguing, so I won't argue with you about it. If you are on a budget and have a Wal-Mart available to you, I suggest Parent's Choice formula. I am sure some people may disagree with me, but Enfamil and Similac and other formulas bubble up so badly if you make it on demand and cause severe gas. Parent's choice doesn't.. and the nutrients are very, very similar to the other major brands. What is the best powder formula for my baby?
The hospital had us bottle feed our daughter Similac... it was a little too much for her stomach (she didn't handle the milk well) so the pediatrician switched us to Isomil - which is made by Similac. It's one of the more expensive formula's though. If you have a pedicatrician, talk to them and ask. If you haven't found a pedicatrician yet, then when you do, ask them.
every baby's system handles formula differently, so my suggestion would be to buy the small cans until you find which formula works best for your baby. Maybe the first one you try will be just fine! I never used formula, but I nanny for twins and they used the sams club brand formula and their kids did just fine with it, but my other friend had to go through several different kinds, only to find out that her son has a milk allergy...good luck!
Why wouldn't you breastfeed!?!
Are you crazy??? Breast is best! If you don't breastfeed your baby will have all sorts of problems.
I am only kidding, I bottle feed my son. We give him donor milk most of the time but also use similac, works fine. The best kind for your baby though will depend on your babys digestive system. He or she may need a special formula, or soy, or lactose free. You just cant tell until you try things out.
I would recommend talking to your pediatrician about it. Babies have different needs. For example, my daughter was a preemie and she had to have a special formula with drops added to it. Your doctor might determine that a certain formula is better suited for your baby.
Also, talking to your doctor might also lead to some great freebies!
You should breastfeed while in the hospital, and before you go back to school, the benefits for baby are great.
If you sign up on the similac website, you will get free samples and coupons, try the early shield, supposed to be the most like breast milk
I used the Parent's Choice formula from Wal-Mart. I did research, and asked my pediatrician, and everything I found, it ws so close to the other expensive brands. You can save about $10 a can!
I would go with the basic Enfamil, Similac, Good start, whatever. There's no reason to go to the specialty stuff unless your baby needs it -- lactose intolerance, extreme gas, etc.
after trying several different powdered formulas, the one that worked the best for my children was similac regular, easy digest.
