What are some safe baby powders and where can I get them?
Ok well I just told my uncle about how baby powders are toxic if they contain talc. He has a 2 year old daughter and a newborn son and he uses baby powder on both of them. He wants to know whats a good name brand and where he can get it.What are some safe baby powders and where can I get them?
It's easiest and safest to not use powder at all. I have never used powder on either of my nine-month-old twins.
The point of powder is to dry the baby's skin completely. This is useful if you are in a hurry, but it's not necessary.
After changing or bathing a baby, pat them dry with a clean towel or cloth. Then, play pat-a-cake or peekaboo before you put your baby's clothes back on.
This gives their skin a little more time to dry thoroughly.

My mother helped me..... not put the bar of soap in but to wash it out... I did the bar of soap thing.....

dear mom, no you do not need to go to the ER, you did the right thing by cleansing with water on your baby eyes.

not sure if its true or not but one of the doctors that my husbands works with tolds us not to use baby powder cuz the powder gets up there noise or in there mouth and into there lungs and they can even chok on it ...and isnt good for them sooo all i use now is cream...best of luck though..

oil is to hard to put on the baby (it runs and then is hard to get off of your hands) Power has been said to be a ';danger'; facter because babies can inhale it and choke (when I mention this to my parents or other parents around the same age they laugh at me because they said they all used powder... ) I think lotion is the easiest and the best. I can put it on my son and whatever is left over on my hands I just rub into my skin. I personally like the Johnson's lavender because I find it soothing! Which is better? Baby lotion can be useful (and smells nice) if baby has dry skin.
Baby powder isnt' necessary, and can be risky. If you DO opt to use it, be sure to shake it into your hand and pat gently on baby's bottom. (You don't want big clouds of it in the air for baby to inhale.) Be aware too that there may be a connection between talcum powder use and certain times of female cancers in girls -- so take that into account when making your decision.
Baby oil is rarely a good idea. Being pure oil, it clogs the pores and can be very irritating. (Many babies (and adults) get a mild rash from it. Not sure if it's due to the oil itself or the scent.)
Baby oil is gross and not good for babies skin. Baby powder is bad for babies lungs (I've never used it per doctor's recommendation
), I use unscented Mustela Stelatopia Cream for my son. Love it!
Edit: I was told cornstarch can grow fungus and mold on a babies bottom and not to use that either. As long as you have good diapers and change them regularly you shouldn't have any probs. My son is almost 4 months and has never had a diaper rash.
Lotion. Baby oil is mineral oil, bad for baby's skin. Powder is bad b/c they can inhale it, and that's bad for their lungs. Try for a lotion with no mineral oil. The more natural the better. If you use powder, use cornstarch powder. It's better than talc.

Powder for baby's butt - b/c it has cornstarch in it to help prevent diaper rash.
I never used baby oil on my kids unless they had cradle crap, then I used it to get the flakes off their heads!

Baby powder isnt' necessary, and can be risky. If you DO opt to use it, be sure to shake it into your hand and pat gently on baby's bottom. (You don't want big clouds of it in the air for baby to inhale.) Be aware too that there may be a connection between talcum powder use and certain times of female cancers in girls -- so take that into account when making your decision.
Baby oil is rarely a good idea. Being pure oil, it clogs the pores and can be very irritating. (Many babies (and adults) get a mild rash from it. Not sure if it's due to the oil itself or the scent.)

Edit: I was told cornstarch can grow fungus and mold on a babies bottom and not to use that either. As long as you have good diapers and change them regularly you shouldn't have any probs. My son is almost 4 months and has never had a diaper rash.

I was just answering a question about baby powder and cream and i noticed that some were saying that baby powder is bad...now I am a little concerned because I used the baby powder on my daughters neck and her underarms to make sure they are nice an dry so no yeast infection. The cornstarch idea sounds like it might be good idea eh? I'm gonna try that i've been struggling with this to b/c it seems like a towel just doesn't get them dry enough. My girl had a red rash under her little arm pit and neck to. Since i started the powder it never happened again. Maybe now that it's winter and not sweaty summer they don't need it as often. Oh yes.......alternating between the ready to feed and the powder is just fine. Can't tell you how many times I would run out of my premeasured powder in one of those divider cups with a snap lid I prepared at home before baby and I went out....low and behold, there I was running into Target, the drug store etc. to purchase one in a pinch (good reason to always carry Similac coupons with you too!) Anyway.....just a tip.....once you open the plastic jug of ready to feed, it should be put in icebox or in cooler ASAP and then use it all up by the next day (within 24 hours) or you will have to pitch the whole thing due to bacteria growth etc. I was kind of a fanatic about that.....I feed my new born smilac baby powder formula and i have a ready formula from the same brand do u think i can?
as long as the baby drinks the similac, feed away. the ready made formula is easier for the mom. thats the way i always did it for mine. ready made!! best of luck to you.

Can't tell you how many times I would run out of my premeasured powder in one of those divider cups with a snap lid I prepared at home before baby and I went out....low and behold, there I was running into Target, the drug store etc. to purchase one in a pinch (good reason to always carry Similac coupons with you too!) Anyway.....just a tip.....once you open the plastic jug of ready to feed, it should be put in icebox or in cooler ASAP and then use it all up by the next day (within 24 hours) or you will have to pitch the whole thing due to bacteria growth etc. I was kind of a fanatic about that.....I feed my new born smilac baby powder formula and i have a ready formula from the same brand do u think i can?

When is the best age to switch from baby powdered milk to fresh?
My son is nearly 19months and our regular pediatrician told me to slowly change his milk from S26 Number 3 to fresh. We did this and he has slowly got used to it. Another pediatrician however told us it was too quick and he should have powdered until 4 years old. He has a good diet and eats pretty much everything. I don't want to go back to powdered. Breast milk or formula for the 1st year
whole milk until 2years old
2% until 5 years old

if you have been using a shampoo for oily hair and that hasn't worked, try one for normal or dry hair. If you dry out your scalp too much, your oil glands will be fooled into thinking you need more oil produced and they will get right on that and then you will have created your own problem. Definitely shampoo every day but rinse like crazy as that can also cause issues. If you are using a conditioner, that may be making the problem worse. unless your hair is in really bad shape, you could skip the conditioner every other time and see if your hair stays dry longer before getting oily.How can you help w/oliy hair? baby powder dosen't work?

What I did is just take a standard shower like shampoo and conditioner and stuff. Make sure your shampoo isn't too strong and have a matching conditioner. Comb your hair before/after you shower. When you are done showering, immediately run your head under cold water for around like 20 seconds. What this does is close your pores on your head so your head no longer produces oil.

Yeah, it does actually. I don't wash my hair everyday sometimes and I'll sprinkle some baby powder through my roots to get rid of the greasy look. Sometimes even if I wash it in the morning, it'll get shiny and flat around my roots half way through the day. If you put some baby powder in, it gets rid of that.

I love to sniff or eat baby powder Johnson and Johnson? Has anyone been threw this and how did you stop?
I was pregnant about 5 years ago. I had a miscarriage, when I was pregnant I loved to sniff or I should say inhale cornstarch powder. When I say inhale I mean Ill press the bottle so the scent would come out. Then I liked the regular baby powder I started craving to eat it. I did a hand full of times. Not like an everyday thing.The years went on I would stop on %26amp; off. Now I like to sniff or inhale more so than eat it. Whenever I feel stressful or scared I just sniff the bottle %26amp; it just has a relaxing effect on me. This is the freaky part, when me %26amp; my mate makes love, if he puts allot of powder all over him. That turns me on so much its like I become a wild animal in bed and I really am not in to sex. Its just 1 type of brand Johnson %26amp; Johnson it cant be any other. Has any one ever been threw what I have been threw. I have never taken drugs I am a strict vegetarian %26amp; I work out routinely. I do not think I have petta or what ever you call it. However if you feel issues are unresolved in your life, if you feel like you get depressed for no reason for extended periods of time, or have reactions to sights, smells, words, sounds that seem to take you out of yourself then it can be helpful to seek counseling for those issues. Pica is eating any non-food item. But the other part of that is when it's non-cultural. So I suppose if you and a few others are eating baby powder more powder to ya! Incidentally, inhaling talc is not good for your lungs. It can block the alveoli in your lungs. take care.

Im a hairstylist and we have always used talc on all our customers. Recently we found out what it does, so we dont use it anymore at the salon, and baby powder is pretty much the same as talc. So stay away from it if not needed. And also, dont put in directly on the baby. Put it in your hands first and rub in on them. Make sure they dont inhale any.

my hair gets greasy quite quickly, so i have to wash it everyday. but if im in a rush and do not have time to wash it i usually put some talcum powder in it and it gets rid of the greasy look. it makes my hair look a bit lighter, but it gets the job done for the rest of the day and gets rid of the grease! i found it works better with blonde hair as when i used this when i was brunette it just made my hair look grey! hope this helps!

It is said that mum's milk lacks enough nutrition for baby's growth after he gets 6 month. Milk power or fresh milk should be adopted. But my boy doesn't accept either no matter how hard we try. Actually I've got enough milk and adequate time for him, but I am not sure how long I should feed him? Is there psychological impact on the prolonged milk-feeding? Current advise is that children under one should not be given fresh milk. If you want to try weaning your son onto another milk other than breast milk then you should use powder milk or ready made cartons. It is much closer, nutritionally, to breast milk than cows milk is.

I give my son full fat goats milk as this again is closer to human milk than cows and also is proven to help with skin irritations, tummy problems and problem sleepers.
I starting stopping breast feeds with my son when he was 9 months (it was becoming increasingly hard to keep him on the breast as he was getting distracted and bored) and replaced each feed that I dropped with a bottle of ready made formula and once he got to one, I replaced the formula with cows milk. I changed him to goats milk when he 2 when i read about the benefits of it.
I was lucky that he accepted the change each time with no problems. If your son doesn't like the change, try mixing the two, just adding a small amount of formula at first and build it up slowly over the weeks so he doesn't really notice.
Often (like what happened to me) the child dictates when they want to stop feeding. There is too much going on in the world for them to want to lie and look at your boobs for a whole feed.
Try and trust your own and your sons instincts and go with what feels right for you both.

But anyways, in order to get him to like formula, I had to repeatedly try and try to get him to taste it. Even if he only drank 1 ounce. Then I'd give him more of my milk to fill him, but eventually he took the formula just fine. There are several kinds of formula, so try each of them if you don't think he likes 1 or the other... but you have to try each one for a couple days to really see. Don't just try them once.
There is no negative psychological impact of prolonged breastfeeding, especially if its only to a year or so. This is how women have fed their children for thousands of years. Yes formula is adequate, but breastfeeding is natural and perfect for your baby.
I don't think you should introduce cow's milk until at least 10-12 months. You could cause an allergic reaction and that would have HUGE ramifications later in life. What is the rush?

Some months my daughter would go through 9 cans a month of formula..other months as she got bigger she'd go through 12-14 cans a month..it depends on how hungry of a baby you have..there is never a set amount of cans each child will go through..if you have a hungry baby obviously you will go through more then someone that has a less hungry baby...also when you start solids my daughter went through even less cans during those months..
do the math. :) baby's never drink the same amount of formula a day, and you should never stock up on one certain kind of formula because if the baby developed an allergy to the formula and you had to switch kinds, that would be a lot of money flushed down the drain

The powder mixes with the wet and makes a paste that sticks to babies skin. You want the moisture to be drawn away from the skin to prevent diaper rash.
I learned this from my First Baby class I took at the hospital. The nurse said she thinks baby should be taken off the market as it poses health hazards.
I personally would'nt use it at all. Its been linked to respiratory problems like asthma and can also cause UTI and yeast infections.
