Okay moms? what is the purpose of having baby powder and baby oil?

I was reading a question and someone was like ';some professional bodies might frown upon the use on babies';

Hope I quoted thos right but if you can't use it on a baby, then why the hell is it in the baby aisle?

I am very curious since I use it or the creamy kind on my baby dry skin and his craddle cap.

And the powder is helps him stay dry and he likes it.

ThanksOkay moms? what is the purpose of having baby powder and baby oil?
I think there are a lot of products in the baby aisle that aren't 100% necessary, but they can be useful. Company's such as 'Johnsons' will keep marketing them as having benefits, but you don't actually need them as they only do things that your baby's body could to naturally.

However, I found baby powder to be great in stopping my daughter from waking up with nappy rash and baby oil stopped her from having dry skin. I was told repeatedly by my midwife that the only people benefiting from these products were those selling them, but I personally could not do without them!Okay moms? what is the purpose of having baby powder and baby oil?
The powder can be inhaled by baby and clog their pores. I think the liquid kind should be fine. And baby oil is fine for babies i put it in their bath every night. Ive never heard of not being able to use the oil just the powder.
the 2 mixed together makes baby paste.
The baby powder contains talc. It is a known carcinogen (cancer causing product). Talc contains asbestos. Using talc on a baby girl's genitals is especially worse because using talc in the genital area has been shown to cause ovarian cancer. When breathed in, it has been linked to lung cancer.

';Talc is closely related to the potent carcinogen asbestos. Talc particles have been shown to cause tumors in the ovaries and lungs of cancer victims. For the last 30 years, scientists have closely scrutinized talc particles and found dangerous similarities to asbestos. Responding to this evidence in 1973, the FDA drafted a resolution that would limit the amount of asbestos-like fibers in cosmetic grade talc. However, no ruling has ever been made and today, cosmetic grade talc remains non-regulated by the federal government. This inaction ignores a 1993 National Toxicology Program report which found that cosmetic grade talc, without any asbestos-like fibers, caused tumors in animal subjects.1 Clearly with or without asbestos-like fibers, cosmetic grade talcum powder is a carcinogen.';

Baby oil is made from mineral oil.

';Petroleum by-product that coats the skin like plastic, clogging the pores. Interferes with skin's ability to eliminate toxins, promoting acne and other disorders. Slows down skin function and cell development, resulting in premature aging. Used in many products (baby oil is 100% mineral oil!) Any mineral oil derivative can be contaminated with cancer causing PAH's (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons). Manufacturers use petrolatum because it is unbelievably cheap.';

';Mineral oils contain hydrocarbons, a real danger to the stomach and especially the lungs - which can stop working.

';A mouthful of baby oil ingested by a child is enough to cause it to vomit and if they breathe that into their lungs that is enough to cause lung inflammation ... if enough of that happens it could lead to death,'; says Dr Gunja.

Mineral oils are also used for cleaning, as industrial and mechanical lubricants, in cosmetics and even pesticides. And, apart from they've been blamed for a range of health problems - allegedly acne, premature ageing of skin, and other skin disorders, impeding normal cell development and possibly causing vitamin deficiency';

There are alternatives. Your baby doesn't need his skin dried out by powder. Pure cocoa butter is a fantastic body moisturiser and is perfect for an infant's delicate skin.
