3.1 Recommendations
PIF is not a sterile product and may be contaminated with pathogens that can cause serious illness. Correct
preparation and handling reduces the risk of illness.
Where available, commercially sterile ready-to-feed liquid infant formula should be used for infants at greatest
risk.
PIF is not a sterile product and can pose a risk to infants, particularly if it is prepared and handled
inappropriately. Reconstituted PIF provides an ideal environment for the growth of harmful bacteria. Even if
present in powdered formula at very low levels, inappropriate preparation and handling of feeds provides ideal
conditions for the growth of harmful bacteria, which greatly increases the risk of infection. However, the risk
can be reduced if feeds are prepared and handled correctly.
The recommendations below outline the best practice for the safe preparation, storage and handling of PIF in
the home in order to reduce the risk of infection with E. sakazakii. These recommendations are also appropriate
for reducing the risk of infection with Salmonella.
It is recommended healthcare professionals ensure that parents and caregivers are instructed in the safe
preparation, storage and handling of PIF.

3.1.3 Preparing feeds in advance for later use
It is best to make PIF fresh for each feed and to consume immediately, as reconstituted PIF provides ideal
conditions for the growth of harmful bacteria. For practical reasons, however, feeds may need to be prepared in
advance. The steps below outline the safest way to prepare and store feeds for later use. If refrigeration is not
available, feeds should be prepared fresh and consumed immediately rather than prepared in advance for later
use.
1. Follow steps 1 to 7 of Section 3.1.2. If using feeding cups, a batch of formula should be prepared in a clean,
sterile jar that is no larger than 1 litre, with a lid. The prepared PIF can be refrigerated and dispensed into
cups as needed.
2. Place cooled feeds in a refrigerator. The temperature of the refrigerator should be no higher than 5 掳C.
3. Feeds can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. When a powder baby formula bottle is made does it need to be refrigerated?
When my daughter was going to drink it immediately, no we didn't refrigerate it because she was going to use it and she hated cold formula. But if she didn't drink it all, or if it was going to sit for awhile, then yes it needs to be refrigerated.
MAKE IT AS YOU NEED IT!
IT ONLY TAKES A SECOND.IF YOUR GOING OUT SOMEWHERE YOU CAN GET A LITTLE PLASTIC CONTAINER THAT IS SPLIT INTO 3 SECTIONS WHERE YOU CAN PUT YOUR POWDER IN ALL YOU NEED IS THE BOILED(COOLED)WATER.
IF YOUR BABY AT THE TIME DOESN'T WANT THE BOTTLE PUT IT IN THE FRIDGE AND USE VERY NEXT FEED.
I PREFER NOT TO PUT IT IN THE FRIDGE BECAUSE THE TEET GOES COLD AS WELL AND BABIES DONT LIKE IT
Yes it does. If the baby does not finish the bottle and you want to try again after a little while, refrigerate it. Anytime you won't be using the formula made bottle right away it needs to be refrigerated
If making ahead, you have to refrigerate it and you can keep it for 24 hours. After that you have to toss it. I made up bottles at night for the next day when my son was on bottles. So convenient to just be able to pop it in the warmer!
Yes. If you make bottles ahead of time (or mix up a batch in a pitcher to fill bottles over the course of the day), it needs to be refrigerated until you feed it to baby.
YES! Your other option would be to have clean bottles already filled with sterilized water sitting on the kitchen counter, and just add the powder when you actually need the bottle.
Unless you are giving it to the baby right then (it is good for 1 hr room temp) then yes it needs to be refrigerated and used within 24 hrs or thrown out.
yes it is only good for 1 huur after it is mixed, and also only good for about 24 hours when refrigerated.
yes, once mixed with water it becomes spoil-able. Best to make it fresh each time, since once the baby drinks some, he/she puts some germs in it which can grow into more germs...
The bottle, as such, need no refrigeration. The contents may need.
ABSOLUTELY.. YES~!!
If you use it within an hour than no, if not then yes, it's milk silly it can spoil.
Yes. And do not microwave. The plastic is toxic if microwaved.
its good for up to an hour then it must be refridgerated once in the fridge its good for 24 hours
Yes it does. Throw it out after 24 hours though.
yes and discard after a day.
Yes, it does.
