Is it bad to use baby powder on baby girls?

Nurses at the hospital told me when my daughter was born that studies have shown that baby powder is not effective in preventing diaper rash, and using it puts her at risk for inhaling particulates which can irritate a little baby's lungs. They recommended if you do use powder to use as little as possible, and sprinkle it on your hand then pat the baby's bottom to avoid putting the baby in a giant cloud of powder. I do use it occasionally if I don't have time to let her bottom air dry for a minute before putting on the next diaper.

I think your concern comes from a few years ago when it was discovered that talc (think talcum powder) is a potential carcinogen. This website http://www.preventcancer.com/consumers/c鈥?/a> explains some of the dangers, including a link between ovarian cancer and the use of talcum powder in the genital area. Nowadays, most baby powders are made from a cornstarch base and are talc-free so that isn't as much of a concern. Is it bad to use baby powder on baby girls?
baby powder is simply useless and it is not good for anyones respiratory system. It is actually illegal to use it in Oregon's nursing homes. Is it bad to use baby powder on baby girls?
It's not bad for her, because it can be very soothing. I used Johnson %26amp; Johnson Baby powder on my babies all the time. I sprinkled a little into my hands, away from their face, then rubbed it on their bodies, especially after a warm relaxing bath %26amp; always after a diaper change. On my granddaughters, I used a little powder, but I was careful not to get it into their private parts.
No....
Its just unnecessary. I wipe and dry, then apply a thin layer of badger balm (its just a mix of oils, but the point is don't always put diaper rash cream on before a diaper). They advise against it now because its also possible that baby inhales some of the powder during frequent changes.
No. I used to have to powder my daughter after every change or she would get a rash.
use cornstarch powder, not talc. put a small amount of the powder on her bottom and rub it in. try to keep it out of her privates.
If your worried about her being sensitive to it then try cornstarch baby powder. It's all natural and made with cornstarch so it's much better.
it is bad to use baby powder on boy or girl babies...that stuff gets into their lungs.
baby powder is not recommened for any gender. This is due to the powder that goes airborne and can get into the respitory system.
As long as you make sure to clean her good during each diaper change it's fine.
My doctor told me not to use baby powder on my daughter, because the powder locks in moisture inside and can cause irritation and cause diaper rash.
heard it's not good because of the dust particles.. hell it's a waste of money if u ask me.. i did use to use it under the babys neck and her bottom though when it was hot out..
my daugher is 11 months- i use powder at almost every diaper change. no infections.

i use ammen's powder. you find it in the foot section at the drugstore! it has the same active ingredient as diaper creams. regular ';baby powder'; gave my daughter a rash. i highly recommend this powder- it truly works wonders.
I think it is bad (now days). I think the reason is 1) The powder gets into their nasal passage causing issues breathing and 2) It holds moisture causing infections. I'm not 100% sure that is why but I know doctors do not recommend baby powder.
