What are some safe baby powders and where can I get them?

Ok well I just told my uncle about how baby powders are toxic if they contain talc. He has a 2 year old daughter and a newborn son and he uses baby powder on both of them. He wants to know whats a good name brand and where he can get it.What are some safe baby powders and where can I get them?
It's easiest and safest to not use powder at all. I have never used powder on either of my nine-month-old twins.

The point of powder is to dry the baby's skin completely. This is useful if you are in a hurry, but it's not necessary.

After changing or bathing a baby, pat them dry with a clean towel or cloth. Then, play pat-a-cake or peekaboo before you put your baby's clothes back on.

This gives their skin a little more time to dry thoroughly.

You can use cornflour instead of talc powder, but I have heard that this can make any thrush infection worse. If the baby does not have thrush, it's probably fine. What are some safe baby powders and where can I get them?
They also say that the fine particles can get in the baby's lungs, so my doctor suggests not using baby powder. They do have baby powder in a cream form if that helps.
From what I've been told from the hospital, pediatrician and websites - no powder is good to use on babies. See this information: http://www.babycenter.com/406_is-it-safe-to-use-baby-powder-on-my-baby_1519559.bc
Huggies makes Liquid Baby Powder.

Get it at walmart or kmart or target. Maybe even Walgreens or CVS.
Johnson and Johnsons... you can get this at walmart or even cheaper places like dollar generals or dollar tree..
Ive never used powder on my son, just desitin...
My doctor says not to use them because they get into the lungs. All powders are basically the same though.

Lightening my foundaton with baby powder? anyone done it?

I've got a lovely expensive Dior foundation in the lightest shade but it is a tad too dark, can i use baby powder over it to make my face appear lighter and how would i do it?

I tried using moisturiser to make my foundation lighter but i didnt know how to do it properly and i ended up with hardly any foundation on my faceLightening my foundaton with baby powder? anyone done it?
Don't put the powder over the top, you'll end up looking like it is caked on.

Put some foundation into your palm and add some powder into that, and then apply it to your face.

You might have to experiment with how much to use. If you use too much it will become mushy.Lightening my foundaton with baby powder? anyone done it?
How about buying a lighter cheaper foundation and mixing the two, you could even buy another Dior one, then mix the two and you will have double the amount with out wasting any.
just put a little amount of the foundation then cover it up by the face powder....
Go to Dior, ask them for a couple of samples of your foundation in a lighter shade, They should give you one. %26amp; mix it with your foundation.
Is it powder or liquid foundation? If it's powder, you can apply a lighter loose powder over the top. If it's liquid, use a wedge shaped cosmetic sponge and put some mosturizer on it, then put some of your foundation on the sponge. This will lighten the color. You might still want to apply a loose powder over top.
Trying using a lighther shade of loose powder to tone it down
perhaps using moisturisor as a base then powder then baby powder. not too much, or it may clog.
THe powder idea doesn't work. Do what a previous person said, mix it with another liquid - either a much lighter foundation, or find a ';color corrector'; white liquid. Armani makes one, but there are also cheaper ones around.

  • My 6 month old got some baby powder in one of her eyes.?

Does she need to go to the ER? (I cleaned her eye with water)My 6 month old got some baby powder in one of her eyes.?
rinse it out with water and see how it looks. if it looks bad take her to the doctorMy 6 month old got some baby powder in one of her eyes.?
dear mom, no you do not need to go to the ER, you did the right thing by cleansing with water on your baby eyes.
just rinse it out and call you doctor to make sure everything is fine..

not sure if its true or not but one of the doctors that my husbands works with tolds us not to use baby powder cuz the powder gets up there noise or in there mouth and into there lungs and they can even chok on it ...and isnt good for them sooo all i use now is cream...best of luck though..
Mine did that, too. He dumped the open bottle over his face and even swallowed some.

But don't worry! Most baby powders are cornstarch based and are non-toxic. Once you flush her eye with water she should be fine. Baby powder just reduces moisture so it'll dry her eye out a bit...that's all.

If your powder is talc-based (unlikely) than you should see a doctor immediately. Just check the ingredients label.

    Hope that helps.
As long you risned her eye with water its okay. But keep an eye on it, to make it doens't get red or anything,.
She should be alright since you rinsed it with water. Just keep an eye on it.
thrisha is right about the chocking hazard powder can coat the inside of her lungs and cause them to colapes so be real careful
No, just keep an eye on it and make sure you got it all out. If her eye becomes red and or puffy and irritated then call your pediatrician, the ER is not needed.
If you rinsed her eye thouroughly, it should be ok. Just check with your doctor to ease your mind. Also, I was told that baby powder is totally unnecessary, so you might want to consider not using it anymore.
Call the poison control center 1-800-222-1222
I would say as long as the water got it all out you should be ok...but if you notice in a few hrs the redness doesnt go away I would call the nurse at your dr's office and see what they advise!

Where can I buy Equate Aloe Vera & Vitamin E Baby Powder (UK)?

Equate is wal-mart generic brand only.

Walmart.com does not currently sell perishable products on their website. Does UK have a walmart?

Is it better to use baby powder rather than deodorant?

I use both. Deodorant of course for underarms and baby powder in my bras so that way I don't sweat. Don't you just hate sweating in your cleavage? Is it better to use baby powder rather than deodorant?
no deodorant is better but you could use baby powder over that for extra protectionIs it better to use baby powder rather than deodorant?
I would say just lots of baby powder.Coz i used deodorant and my underarms became very black that i stopped wearing sleeveless clothes.

When your hair is oily do you sprinkle baby powder in it so you don't have to wash it?

I have this friend who informed me , you can sprinkle baby powder in your hair to avoid washing it everday. I refuse to try this if its some sick twisted trick for her to look better than me.When your hair is oily do you sprinkle baby powder in it so you don't have to wash it?
lmao!! you got so many answers to this it cracked me up!! yes my cousin used to do that about 45 years ago, the old baby powder trick. it leaves your hair smelling good and looking dull! however they did invent psssst, that spray on stuff which is basically the same thing. i just go for the dirty look instead. When your hair is oily do you sprinkle baby powder in it so you don't have to wash it?
my mom taught me that a long time ago. but it dont work so i wash everyday.
Ok ur kinda nasty if u dont like 2 wash ur hair and i just recently read that on someone who answerd a question so idk but seriosly WASH UR HAIR! SO WASH IT ITS GROSS

    STINKY!!!
it does work, but y dsnt she just wash it?
It's supposed to suck up the oil from the hair but my guess is it will just stick to your scalp.

How lazy is one to not hop in the shower and give your hair a quick rinse? I'm washed dried and out the door in less than half an hour!!!
**** man I KNEW there was a way to get out of showering ........thank you
You can, works best on blonde hair. There are also dry shampoos you can buy that you spray in your hair. It might make it look less greasy but I have always found that I feel dirty and gross if I use it instead of washing my hair when it needs it. Washing is better - save the dry shampoos for camping
You could if you wanted to look as though you have really bad dandruff...
uh no.. the best thing to do, if you like to wash your hair everyday is to use a shampoo and conditioner that does not contain alcohol. And do not twist it when it is wet.
    NO......

I have never done that,, nor have I ever heard of that ..

And even now that I have heard this ,I still wont do it..
no it really does work. If you just dont have time for a shower or something, you can sprinkle the baby powder and people never know
Kim Vo, the hairdresser on E!News suggested that tip. But I'm not inclined to try it.
Yuck, Come on....! wash it and if you have oily hair, let up on the conditioner or check with your hair dresser.
    i can't because i'm a brunette.
no, i've never tried it...i prefer to be clean and just take a shower...but i've heard this before too, i guess it absorbs the oil or something
yes, you can use baby powder, but washing it is a better idea. you should use a good shampoo though, with a low detergent level that won't completely dry it out if you shower everyday. baby powder just makes a big mess (plus if it was really oilly, it would look like you had major dandruff!)
Hmmm weird...I have never heard of anyone doing this...Sounds like a twisted trick.
No I just wash it everyday. Works for me.
    umm nope
used to do that years ago. like in the 70s. i guess it helps that i am blonde. .back then it was a quick fix for me but now i go nuts if i dont wash it on a daily basis.
    sprinkling baby powder? that's weird.

luckily i only have to wash my hair once a week for it to look wonderful. :)

it's pretty gross that if you guys don't wash it, it gets oily and yucky. luck of the draw i guess.
when i didn't have enough time to shower, yeah, but i won't do it again

don't put too much or your hair will be white....lol
It works.. hey it doesnt matter what these people say... if your in a rush then do the baby powder.... and heres a tip your not supposed to wash your hair everyday, but rather everyother day. my hairdresser at TONY AND GUY told me this :)
    i nevah heard of that
    no
NO. If you pee on it then you can get the oil out and prevent dandruff at the same time. The trick is standing on your head in the shower. Be careful not to slip on the oil from your hair!
I have done it before, and it does work. Any talc powder will do. They even sell special powders and sprays for just that.
    never heard of this
well...when my hair becomes oily....i wash it....and i never heard of doing that....
Now I finally figured out your REAL profession and the reason I understand you so well. Yes this works and mostly it is done on the people in nursing homes...so unless you are planning a move keep that powder away from your scalp.
    well actually,

you shouldn't wash your hair EVERYDAY because this can cause your hair to dry out.

However, if your hair is naturally very oily,

than you really would be better off washing it...

baby powder will turn your hair white/gray

that's what they use in plays when people are playing older characters. lol, turns their hair straight gray.

Which is better? Baby lotion, baby powder, or baby oil?

Please include you personal reasons. Thanks.Which is better? Baby lotion, baby powder, or baby oil?
oil is to hard to put on the baby (it runs and then is hard to get off of your hands) Power has been said to be a ';danger'; facter because babies can inhale it and choke (when I mention this to my parents or other parents around the same age they laugh at me because they said they all used powder... ) I think lotion is the easiest and the best. I can put it on my son and whatever is left over on my hands I just rub into my skin. I personally like the Johnson's lavender because I find it soothing! Which is better? Baby lotion, baby powder, or baby oil?
    For what purpose?

Baby lotion can be useful (and smells nice) if baby has dry skin.

Baby powder isnt' necessary, and can be risky. If you DO opt to use it, be sure to shake it into your hand and pat gently on baby's bottom. (You don't want big clouds of it in the air for baby to inhale.) Be aware too that there may be a connection between talcum powder use and certain times of female cancers in girls -- so take that into account when making your decision.

Baby oil is rarely a good idea. Being pure oil, it clogs the pores and can be very irritating. (Many babies (and adults) get a mild rash from it. Not sure if it's due to the oil itself or the scent.)
Baby oil is gross and not good for babies skin. Baby powder is bad for babies lungs (I've never used it per doctor's recommendation

), I use unscented Mustela Stelatopia Cream for my son. Love it!

Edit: I was told cornstarch can grow fungus and mold on a babies bottom and not to use that either. As long as you have good diapers and change them regularly you shouldn't have any probs. My son is almost 4 months and has never had a diaper rash.
Lotion. Baby oil is mineral oil, bad for baby's skin. Powder is bad b/c they can inhale it, and that's bad for their lungs. Try for a lotion with no mineral oil. The more natural the better. If you use powder, use cornstarch powder. It's better than talc.
Lotion on baby's whole body, b/c it moisturizes and it smells REALLY good!

Powder for baby's butt - b/c it has cornstarch in it to help prevent diaper rash.

I never used baby oil on my kids unless they had cradle crap, then I used it to get the flakes off their heads!

Baby lotion -- great for baby's skin.

I don't like or use baby oil other than to get rid of cradle cap, and I read somewhere that baby powder should no longer be used. I want to say it had something to do with the residual dust being dangerous to baby.
Baby lotion! Baby oil is very dangerous, if a child swallows it, the oil coats their lungs and it is impossible to treat and the baby then suffocates. Not a chance I'd be willing to take.
i dont which is better but i use lotion. i heard baby powder shouldnt be used anymore i forgot why. and i feel baby oil is to oily and greasy. so i just use lotion johnson and johnson
Baby lotion. I hate the feeling of baby powder and baby oil scares me with the slipperyness and I don't want my baby looking oily.
I personally like baby lotion. Baby oil is too greasy to me. I don't like baby powder blowing everywhere.
baby lotion is wot i use coz it quickly absorbs in the skin and oil makes ur baby freasy, powder can choke up ur childif realy young
I dont use any, his skin is new and soft and smells good anyway.
lotion...i never really use oil or powder.

Baby powder is harmful to babies?

I just heard that baby powder harms babies! I've been using it on my two month old baby for a while now. Have I caused alot of damage already...I stopped using it as soon as I heard but I'm worried as to what kind of damage I've caused so far???Baby powder is harmful to babies?
Yes, esp. if it contains talc and if the baby inhaled it. If you caused damage you would have noticed as this would have caused an adverse reaction to the baby's lungs.Baby powder is harmful to babies?
I've never heard of that. However, i could see how inhailing it since it kind of goes up into a big puff when you use it, could be unhealthy. Hun, don't worry about it too much. People have been using baby powder on babies for a veeerrry long time and thus far, I haven't heard of any baby having any complications do to baby powder. As long as you've already stopped, and will not use it again, the baby will be fine. If you see anything unusual or if you have any further concerns, contact the baby's doc ASAP. Good luck with everything and congrats!! =]
The old, traditional baby powder is actually talc, which is related to asbestos and may be associated with some types of cancers. Baby powder has been reformulated and now contains cornstarch instead, which is perfectly safe. As long as you are not using a container that's years old (and probably still talc), you're fine.
As far as I know it is only harmful if the baby breathes in the powder. So you don't want to be getting it all in the air for that to happen.

Of course, this would be true of anything powdery. You wouldn't want to get flour or powdered sugar all in the air that the baby would be breathing in.
It's only harmful if the baby inhales the powder. If you use it carefully and make sure that it doesn't poof out everywhere, then it's fine. But if you're uncomfortable with the risk just use diaper rash cream instead.
NO WAY! why do u think they call it BABY powder i know i use to think that to but then i serched it up and its called baby powder for a reason they help take away rashes from babies and ur baby probily got it because she/he might of breathed it in
I've never heard that so I'll have to look out. I use desitin for my daughter if she has a diaper rash and works wonders! Give desitin a try if your child has a rash. Good luck!
we used baby powder on both of our kids when they were born and now they are 13 and 11 years old.nothing ever happened to them.as a matter of fact they are both on the honor roll.unless the baby powder made them smart?
Honey, if baby powder harmed babies, then 99% of us wouldn't be here today! I use it occasionally in my daughter's diaper, and by God's grace, she's still alive and well!
im sure your child is okay ppl have been using powder forever but its good that you stopped i didn't no that either why does johnson%26amp;johnson even make it if its dangerous if your worried you can always consult a doctor
Use cornstarch powder, not talc. Talc is a mineral and has asbestos in it. They don't add it, it's there naturally.
No it doesn't. Think about how long people have been using it. My mom used it on me and I have nothing wrong with me. Its just a myth.
It's only if you make it poof and powder goes everywhere in the air around the baby because then they inhale it.
I think you are hearing about talcum powder, which used to be in baby powder but is not now.
Uhh no he's fine, we all were once covered in baby powder when we were babies and were fine. gosh
That is hogwash. I raised 5 children on powdered baby formula and they are healthy as horses and smart as whips.

I remember hearing that advertised when I was in Chicago in the early 80's. I am white but I still found it interesting and wanting to see what it looked like but I couldn't find it any where in Chicago and I have never seen it in any of the cities I have been to. I wonder if they make it anymore.

Could I possibly add more powder formula to my baby milk?

When I give him 2 oz milk it says to put one scoop of powder milk but it looks so runny unlike the ready made similac I was buying it looked alot thicker do you think its ok to put like an half a scoop extra powder to the water?Could I possibly add more powder formula to my baby milk?
That would be giving more calories to your baby so no it's best to just follow the directions on the formula box. Premade always is thicker but it contains the same amount of calories.Could I possibly add more powder formula to my baby milk?
Nope, powder formula is thinner then the canned formula. I would prepare it by the directions unless otherwise indicated by your doctor. Despite the texture and thickness, the nutrients ar the same.

Giving too much formula in his bottle can cause constipation and over time may even cause excess weight gain.
Follow the directions on the can precisely. If you concentrate the 2 oz of water too much, your baby could become constipated. Usually, it is 1 scoop per 2 oz of water. And that's NOT a heaping scoop, so be sure to ';shave off'; the scoop with a knife or something. It should be an even scoop.

    HTH!
No, it's not okay. The directions on the can are there for a reason: that is EXACTLY how you are to make it. Adding more formula(or water) can cause problems with your baby.
u have to go by what the directions say. if u give him too much, it might make him sick. it should be the same consistency as regular milk or breast milk.

if u think he needs more, just make him a bigger bottle
Adding more formula than the directions say could also cause kidney problems for your baby, never do this!

NOOOOOO, don't do this. It can create a whole world of problems. Like spitting up, tummy aches, gassy problems. Not recommended at all.
Follow the instructions. Making it thicker can cause digestive problems.
NO! don't do that. You can upset his stomach. Just do like the container says and if he does fine w/it (which he probably will) then he's fine!
No, you should follow the instructions on the can. You could hurt your baby by concentrating it too much.
Absolutely not. It can cause many problems, especially constipation.
No, don't, you need to follow the instructions on the tin. Adding too much powder can leave them dehydrated.
I wouldnt do it, the instructions are there for a reason.
Just keep to the directions. No need to add more or less.
what brand milk are you using? i use sma and it is one scoop of powder for every once of water
i used to put one more scoop then it says. so i dont see why not.

    I don't, but your niece isn't alone.

I would tell her to stop, not only is it weird, but possibly toxic. My 15 year old niece likes to eat baby powder, does anyone else does this?
You might want to contact the baby powder company or your pharamacy and see if eating it can hurt you. If it does you have to take action before she gets sick.

    Is baby powder is bad?

I was just answering a question about baby powder and cream and i noticed that some were saying that baby powder is bad...now I am a little concerned because I used the baby powder on my daughters neck and her underarms to make sure they are nice an dry so no yeast infection. She had one once and after I started using it-she doesnt anymore. So I am thinking I am going to stop using it-but what else can I use to dry it off...just a towel? Is baby powder is bad?
Hi yes it's bad! I answered that other mommy of Alex question to.I still use it, but in moderation. Put a little in your hand and then gently dab it on don't let it become a puffy cloud. When i went to college and worked in a nursing home full of nurses and doctors they all say it's bad and led to cervical cancer and lung problems they completely bannned it from the home! The cornstarch idea sounds like it might be good idea eh? I'm gonna try that i've been struggling with this to b/c it seems like a towel just doesn't get them dry enough. My girl had a red rash under her little arm pit and neck to. Since i started the powder it never happened again. Maybe now that it's winter and not sweaty summer they don't need it as often. Anyways cornstarch it is! Good luck!Is baby powder is bad?
i heard it was bad if you smoother them in it, it can get to their lungs if they breathe it in and possibly cause choking.

i doubt youre doing it like that, as youre applying it so close to her face, so i wouldnt worry.

you can get liquid talc, it goes like a cream and drys like talc, so it gets rid of any choking danger. xxx
I've heard that baby powder is bad because it's similar somehow to asbestos in what it does to the lungs. You can use plain cornstarch instead of powder. It works as well and there's no health risk to using it.
Baby powder that is made with talcum can cause irritated lungs and is associated with an increase in genital cancers, in particular the ovaries and lungs.

Corn starch based powder is not toxic and just as effective.
It's a problem if the baby is breathing it in.

If you are puttin it on her neck, just put it on your hand first..away from her face, so the dust doesnt get inhaled by her.
I heard to be cautious with it since if there's alot ';blew'; into the air the baby can breathe it and get into their lungs... who knows though, it's been around forever and I've never heard of it causing anyone problems.
Most pediatricians will tell you not to use baby power on infants or small children because it increases the liklihood of a yeast infection. Just use the towel and be sure to get them thouroughly dry.
you can by baby powder that is pure cornstarch. thats what we always used. it still smells like baby powder.
cornstarch powder is best, but I dont use any on my baby at all. Never really saw too much of a need for it.
Use it on her neck and her back.

    Her neck, her back...
Just make sure it is cornstarch and not Talc.
ive heard that it can cause cervical cancer.

Also pedipaws is only good if your dogs are ok at having their paws done.. i bought one and it was a waste of money.. as my dog freaks out and this was supposed to be brilliant, it wasnt!!If a dogs toe nail is cut to short, is it ok to use baby powder on it to make it stop bleeding?
You are supposed to use baking sodaIf a dogs toe nail is cut to short, is it ok to use baby powder on it to make it stop bleeding?
Cornstarch would be better, if you don't have any styptic powder.
    Yep
Corn starch or flour won't have the chemicals that your dog will ingest when it licks the nail.
i think so get pedi paws its a nail filer for ur dog or cat it helps alot!! i have it for my dog but when u use regular nail clippers be sure NOT to cut the quick (tissue in the dogs nail) thats wut makes it bleed so i recomend pedi paws

    Baby powder for hair extensions?

i heard that if you put baby powder on your hair, mostly roots, it gets rid of oil, and looks cleaner, but how do u do it? im getting extensions today and i don't wanna wash them everyday, but what do i do with the powder? just like, rub it in or something?Baby powder for hair extensions?
better to use a good shampoo for hair extensions, than that way.

Which is better caldesene powder, gold bond baby powder, Original desitin, A&D or something else?

We like the Desitin Creamy. Works great and it isn't has hard to spread on and wipe off.Which is better caldesene powder, gold bond baby powder, Original desitin, A%26amp;D or something else?
A%26amp;D ointment is good. If A%26amp;D ointment doesn't work, then you might need an antifungal agent, call your doc for that. If you want to use a powder, put it in your hand, then on baby's bottom. Never shake the container to put the powder on the baby!!!Which is better caldesene powder, gold bond baby powder, Original desitin, A%26amp;D or something else?
DO NOT use any type of powder. It can be ingested into the baby's lungs during application. I use A%26amp;D. Whatever you do, do not use any powder.
I prefer A%26amp;D cream. My daughter has never gotten a diaper rash while having it on.
desiten cream is the best! it has 40% zinc oxide in it

  • I feed my new born smilac baby powder formula and i have a ready formula from the same brand do u think i can?

give both at the same timeI feed my new born smilac baby powder formula and i have a ready formula from the same brand do u think i can?
Oh yes.......alternating between the ready to feed and the powder is just fine. Can't tell you how many times I would run out of my premeasured powder in one of those divider cups with a snap lid I prepared at home before baby and I went out....low and behold, there I was running into Target, the drug store etc. to purchase one in a pinch (good reason to always carry Similac coupons with you too!) Anyway.....just a tip.....once you open the plastic jug of ready to feed, it should be put in icebox or in cooler ASAP and then use it all up by the next day (within 24 hours) or you will have to pitch the whole thing due to bacteria growth etc. I was kind of a fanatic about that.....I feed my new born smilac baby powder formula and i have a ready formula from the same brand do u think i can?
as long as the baby drinks the similac, feed away. the ready made formula is easier for the mom. thats the way i always did it for mine. ready made!! best of luck to you.
yes, thats what i do with my baby, its all the same ingrediants
If you mean can you mix them together, no. That wouldn't be good for the digestive system.

If you're asking if you can alternate, then yes. That would be ok...
Yes I alternate all of the time from powdered Similac Isomil Advance and the pre-mixed of the same brand. It doesn't cause my baby any digestive problems whatsoever.
The only difference between the powder formula

    and the liquid formula

    is the water

    They are the same.

Be sure to check the expiration date on all your cans and bottles.

Baby powder and baby oil made from squeezed babies?

    Yeah.

You don't want to know how they make baby food.Baby powder and baby oil made from squeezed babies?

    No
Hehehehe! Someone got up on the ';evil'; side of bed this morning. Thanks for the laugh!
    no...

baby powder and baby oil are made FOR babies...
It's done in the same manner that orange juice is made.
no they are cut to ooze baby sap. this way they can come back for more.
    HEE HEE HEE
yip , and girl scout cookies are made from real girl scouts!
Wow, don't forget about baby food!!!
dont think thats the way they formulated these products. but they were made soft and smooth by them...........
No, silly, it's made from baby poo.
Hahaha! That's a good one. And baby diapers are made from baby skins?
now this ive actually heard of. i stumbled upon it 3 years ago in northern italy. now, the way they were doing it didnt exactly hurt the babies but it seemed to be quite effective. i have heard that americans adopted some of these methods but they just kill the babies and toss them in the garbage.
    Kind of like Soylent Green?
Yeah, you can donate your children to help make it, there is a current shortage....you didn't know?

When is the best age to switch from baby powdered milk to fresh?

My son is nearly 19months and our regular pediatrician told me to slowly change his milk from S26 Number 3 to fresh. We did this and he has slowly got used to it. Another pediatrician however told us it was too quick and he should have powdered until 4 years old. He has a good diet and eats pretty much everything. I don't want to go back to powdered. Opinions and advice welcomed???When is the best age to switch from baby powdered milk to fresh?
When you say powdered milk are you speaking of formula? I've always heard and this is what I did with both of my babies is....

Breast milk or formula for the 1st year

    whole milk until 2years old

    2% until 5 years old

and from there you can go to skim or 1% if you'd like.

As far as the transition from formula to milk, I started with full servings of milk once a day for a couple of days and then formula for the rest of the time and went from there. My youngest had a milk allergey so we had to switch to soy. Good Luck and God Bless. When is the best age to switch from baby powdered milk to fresh?
Maranda has it right. That's what I did with my kids.
I don't know why your doctor would put him on powdered milk to begin with. My daughter was on formula until the age of 1, then switched directly to cow's milk.
    I agree with Maranda too.

Toddler formula has a lot more sugar than regular cow's milk, which children definitely don't need.

Keep going with the fresh milk especially if all seems fine!
Um, yeah why is your child on powered milk? Was there a medical reason? Maybe you could give a little more info, because otherwise there is no reason a child shouldn't go from formula to whole milk around age 1.

    When does baby powder expire?

There is no expiration date on my bottle of baby powder and Ive had it for about 1 1/2 years. Does it expire?

    ThanksWhen does baby powder expire?
ETA: Woopsy, I misread LOL. Diaper powder does not expire. When does baby powder expire?
Baby powder or powder formula? If powder, I'm pretty sure there is no expiration date, since it's not to be eaten. heh, obviously. If it's formula, it's probably only good for a month or so after being opened.
It doesn't expire but never use it for a baby its very bad for them. It can cause serious lung infections because they breath in the fine particles which are realised when you use it. Please throw it out. Just use a cream to prevent rashes.
well, i don't know if it expires, but why would u have it that long and want to use it now? since it isn't edible and if it isn't chunky from moisture or something, i can't see how it would expire...
    You mean talcum, not formula?

Talcum is a ground soft rock that's been around since time immemorial, so it should never expire.
If you can't see it and are uncertain, just be 100% certain by getting a new canister of formula. Takes away all uncertainty.
12 months from the date you open it.

    What is baby powder for?

im just curious. why do you rub it on your skin? will it lock the moisture in?? i heard that you can use it as a deodranant (i 4got how to spell it. its the thing u put under your arms). is it true? What is baby powder for?
I only use medicated baby powder if my daughter has a rash. What is baby powder for?
It is mostly to absorb moisture. On my daughter, I have only used it once, but I do not like it due to the small particles that could get caught in her lungs at an inhale. I did put some powder under her neck as a newborn once, it was very raw and so much moisture was under there. But it really wasn't necessary to do. I won't be using it again with my next child.
It absorbs the moisture so that it doesn't cause a rash. And I suppose you could use it as a deodorant simply because it absorbs the moisture and wouldn't let bacteria grow in it, except you'd probably have to keep re-applying it and then you'd totally smell like baby powder XD
It helps keep moist areas dry. I used it on both my boys epecially in the crawling stage to help prevent chafing. I also use it in my sports bra to help prevent breakouts around my bra line from getting sweaty.
nothing really; they don't suggest u use it on baby's anymore, so i don't know what else it would do.....i doubt it would be a good anti-perspirant and deo...
I used baby cornstarch (like powder).I would sprinkle in all their little neck creases and leg creases so they wouldn't get sore.
    It absorbs moisture.
used for preventing diaper rash, as a deodorant, and for other cosmetic uses
It's to prevent chaffing, and reduce rashes.
its so the babys dont get diaper rash

    so you can do that.

Cornstarch and baby powder is a NO NO

in your hair it drys it out and it will make your hair not so shinny or nice.Duz cornstarch or baby powder, used on dry hair, make it seem thicker ?
Yes, it can. But you have to do it correctly. It's not a dumb idea at all -- It's actually a very old and established way of making your hair seem thicker and cleaner, too -- it's been featured in Cosmo recently, because it's coming back in style as a way to save time and make your hair look healthy. So you are totally ahead of the fashion curve. :) Maybe that's why these other answerers didn't know about it -- you kind of have to be fashionably in the know, I guess.

The hairspray idea was a sweet gesture, but it's a little old-fashioned and out of favor, because it usually doesn't really make your hair look thicker -- just stickier and stiffer. And I would be careful mixing the powders and the hairspray -- use one or the other.

    Good luck!

Pour some powder on my hand so I can slap the $h!t outta you.
You have PICA...You are lacking minerals. I used to crave freshly plowed dirt. I didn't eat it but the smell made me want to taste it. Tell your doctor. This is normal, you are not alone.
    eww
They're right about the pica. I fyou really are obsessed with eating baby powder then your body is probably craving minerals. People in some cultures go out and dig in the dirt for mineral rich soil to eat. They literally eat dirt to make up for the lack of minerals in their diet. That could be why you do it too. See your doctor, for sure.
I'm obsessed with Donald Rumsfeld's haircut - wanna trade?
You should try flour... It's even more addictive...
    No, you need a professional.
Sure, what is your address? I will send you some baby powder! NOT!!! You should look into some professional help! Eating baby powder in not normal!
you suffer from pica there is therapy avalible. its an obsessive behavior. check it out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pica_(disor鈥?/a>
say you're kidding, cuz that's very gross!!!!!!
are you pregnant? i've heard that pregnant women want to eat weird stuff when they are lacking a certain vitamin/mineral in their diet....so even if you are not expecting maybe your body is reacting the same way....

start taking a multi-vitamin and see what happens.
    try taking a multivitiman.
I can help. Throw in some drano it really spices it up.

    holla, yo boy
That can't be healthy. Maybe you have a mineral deficiency. See your doctor.
either u are pregnant and have some type of anemia usually (iron deficiency anemia)

or maybe just one of the above
ya i can help you. first off spin around 3 times and then say ';doodle berry, doodle berry, in a can, how many dogs are in a man?'; finaly clap your hands 3 times with your eyes closed. and you should now be obsessed with strong female singers.

    hope this helped

Does baby powder (talcum) age/damage your skin in anyway?

Only if used frequently (all day long), baby talc like any other talcum powder will clog the skin pores making them dull.In case of sweat and pollution it may cause rashes in case skin is sensitive.

Usage of powder limitedly will not damage the skin in any way...Give time few hours to breathe free.

Gud luck!!!Does baby powder (talcum) age/damage your skin in anyway?
Nope the only thing baby powder or talcum is dangerous for is during application if you have allergies or asthma or the room is not well ventilated. Can cause breathing difficulties when the powder is in the air.Does baby powder (talcum) age/damage your skin in anyway?
Baby powder is not longer talcum and is now cornstarch. It hasn't been proven to cause any aging or damage to the skin. It should be safe since it is a item cooks use in food.

How can you help w/oliy hair? baby powder dosen't work?

if you have been using a shampoo for oily hair and that hasn't worked, try one for normal or dry hair. If you dry out your scalp too much, your oil glands will be fooled into thinking you need more oil produced and they will get right on that and then you will have created your own problem. Definitely shampoo every day but rinse like crazy as that can also cause issues. If you are using a conditioner, that may be making the problem worse. unless your hair is in really bad shape, you could skip the conditioner every other time and see if your hair stays dry longer before getting oily. How can you help w/oliy hair? baby powder dosen't work?
Okay, I take it that you are probably Asian judging from your avatar. Don't worry, many Asians have the same problem.

What I did is just take a standard shower like shampoo and conditioner and stuff. Make sure your shampoo isn't too strong and have a matching conditioner. Comb your hair before/after you shower. When you are done showering, immediately run your head under cold water for around like 20 seconds. What this does is close your pores on your head so your head no longer produces oil.

    Edit:

Ahhh sorry that I stereotyped. Haha I'm Asian fyi. But yeah, the cold water treatment does work. Soooo annoying to be freezing afterwards =/

And fyi, you need to use cold shower after every time you shower. How can you help w/oliy hair? baby powder dosen't work?
Misting it with a body spray that contains alcohol can help a little, but the only thing I know of that works really well is to shampoo every day, or wear a hat if you skip.
    Well, I have this problem,

but i found the right Shampoo/Conditioner (which luckily was a cheap 2 in 1),

and when I forget to wash my hair I use baking soda.
use a clear shampoo, the creamy ones add the oiliness, garnier fructis works great! the clear one, it wont leave your hair oily and it'll leave it prefectly shiny
    Shower daily.
try shampooing with baking soda once a month.
    use a decent conditoner
Shampoos that are made for oily hair

Is 'pressed powder' different from 'baby powder'?

    absolutely!

they contain a lot of the same ingredients, however they achieve very different results because of a few key changes. pressed powder contains pigments, is formulated to often absorb oil and even some are medicated to prevent acne. pressed powder ismade to make the skin look more even toned. baby powder absorbs moisture to prevent chaffingIs 'pressed powder' different from 'baby powder'?
yes. Pressed powder is a make-up, that comes in a flat tub, and is pretty much solid, but it becomes powder when it's brushed. Baby powder is a baby care product, used to prevent chaffing with babies. It is a loose white powder that comes in a bottle, and is generally squeezed out.Is 'pressed powder' different from 'baby powder'?
baby powder is for changing diapers and stuff and pressed powder is a cosmetic for the face.
    yes! different chemicals
    yes by alot

Does anyone know how to take oily stains out of cotton (machine-washable) using baby powder? ?

My dress is cotton--muslin-type. I got some salad dressing on it yesterday. A friend told me how to get it out using baby powder, but I can't remember everything she said. Do you know how to do this? Or do you have another idea that will work? Thanks!!Does anyone know how to take oily stains out of cotton (machine-washable) using baby powder? ?
~~It's really easy. Sprinkle the powder covering the stain, then take your finger and rub it well into the garment. Let it sit for 15 to 30 minutes. Try brushing away the powder, the stain usually will be gone. If not, just launder again as usual and it will be gone. This works for me every time!~~Does anyone know how to take oily stains out of cotton (machine-washable) using baby powder? ?

    Baby powder for greasy hair?

I have blonde hair, so I'm not concerned with white baby powder. I was just wondering if baby powder really does work and if it would keep my hair from looking greasy while I was at school for 7 hours.Baby powder for greasy hair?
Yeah, it does actually. I don't wash my hair everyday sometimes and I'll sprinkle some baby powder through my roots to get rid of the greasy look. Sometimes even if I wash it in the morning, it'll get shiny and flat around my roots half way through the day. If you put some baby powder in, it gets rid of that.

The only thing is sometimes it makes my hair more prone to static when i use it...but other than that, it's been something ive been using for years:)Baby powder for greasy hair?
do you shampoo every day? baby powder would just gunk up in your hair
    Works well
it can and usually will...however it will also give a matte texture which if you like to run your fingers through your hair would end up hurting and probably looking worse...instead i would sugguest using a higher cleansing shampoo...really work to get a good lather when shampooing in the morning....
just apply a little to your roots it dosent really look all that white and chalky only when you apply alot but blend

I love to sniff or eat baby powder Johnson and Johnson? Has anyone been threw this and how did you stop?

I was pregnant about 5 years ago. I had a miscarriage, when I was pregnant I loved to sniff or I should say inhale cornstarch powder. When I say inhale I mean Ill press the bottle so the scent would come out. Then I liked the regular baby powder I started craving to eat it. I did a hand full of times. Not like an everyday thing. The years went on I would stop on %26amp; off. Now I like to sniff or inhale more so than eat it. Whenever I feel stressful or scared I just sniff the bottle %26amp; it just has a relaxing effect on me. This is the freaky part, when me %26amp; my mate makes love, if he puts allot of powder all over him. That turns me on so much its like I become a wild animal in bed and I really am not in to sex. Its just 1 type of brand Johnson %26amp; Johnson it cant be any other. Has any one ever been threw what I have been threw. I have never taken drugs I am a strict vegetarian %26amp; I work out routinely. I do not think I have petta or what ever you call it. Baby Powder is the only weird thing I eat.I love to sniff or eat baby powder Johnson and Johnson? Has anyone been threw this and how did you stop?
It is pica, and sometimes it stays with you after you have had your baby. Also you could be anemic. Take vitamins, iron, and b12. Stop sniffing the white stuff lady!!!!I love to sniff or eat baby powder Johnson and Johnson? Has anyone been threw this and how did you stop?
It's actually called Pica. If you're mentioning miscarriage and are saying that you don't have pica that's ok if what is occuring is not causing problems in your life. However if you feel issues are unresolved in your life, if you feel like you get depressed for no reason for extended periods of time, or have reactions to sights, smells, words, sounds that seem to take you out of yourself then it can be helpful to seek counseling for those issues. Pica is eating any non-food item. But the other part of that is when it's non-cultural. So I suppose if you and a few others are eating baby powder more powder to ya! Incidentally, inhaling talc is not good for your lungs. It can block the alveoli in your lungs. take care.
It's Pica all right... and please see a doctor- also as long as you don't harass babies, who smell like Johnson's Baby Powder.... but do consult a doctor- any doctor- psychologist, internist, psychiatrist- whatever- just see one, okay?
you are sick and you need to see a doctor, its called pica

Can you use corn starch as a substitute for baby powder?

Yes. In fact, it's supposed to be better. They say the talc in baby powder is bad for your lungs.

Is it okay for baby if i will put a little baby powder on his body?

Now there is a baby powder that Huggies makes that starts out in liquid then after you put it on it goes to powder form. That is safer. Also Soft and Precious. Is it okay for baby if i will put a little baby powder on his body?
It's ok i guess.. juz dont dump the powder on the baby straight from the bottle.. Sprinkle on your hands first. then put bit by bit on him.Is it okay for baby if i will put a little baby powder on his body?
Baby powder is actually bad for babies even adults. It can actually cause harm to their lungs. In fact any kind of baby or talc powder is bad for adults also. I actually found this out from work. Im a hairstylist and we have always used talc on all our customers. Recently we found out what it does, so we dont use it anymore at the salon, and baby powder is pretty much the same as talc. So stay away from it if not needed. And also, dont put in directly on the baby. Put it in your hands first and rub in on them. Make sure they dont inhale any.
Lots of babies have been fine if their moms have used baby powder on them, but it's true that it isn't that good for them, especially if they breathe it. Consider using cornstarch instead, which is just as effective and will cause no problems for baby.
if your baby is newborn then no. it can get up their nose and it is not good for them. if you like the smell you can buy lotion that smells like baby powder.
Yes it is okay to put powder cause it keep the baby skin cool and soft, cause i have a month old baby and i always use powder on her especially when she is hot it keeps her cool. GOOd Luck wit ur new bundle of joy : )
No it's not okay. It's very dangerous if they inhale the powder. I would use lotion instead.
Baby powder is not really good for babies. It can cause breathing problems and be very bad for their lungs. Do NOT ever use baby powder on any part of your baby. Especially not his body.
yes...i did it when my daughter was born in the summer and she would get little heat rashes in her chubby folds. And i beleive baby powder is safe otherwise it wouldn't be sold on the shelves in all over America if it wasn't!
wow, I always thought it was, until I saw ur question and did a google search.. it definitely is not okay.. I am glad you asked this question, or I still would not know..

this is the link I am still in the middle of reading:

    http://parenting.ivillage.com/baby/bsafe鈥?/a>

I am definitely NOT going to use baby powder when I change my baby's diaper. (I am due in 5 weeks).

(to the other answerers) what's with the thumbs down?? I just read this for the first time, and I had no idea that it posed any danger AT ALL until now.. I am just passing on my recently discovered information. I don't have any prior experience with baby powder and babies, so what I read is all I know..

I am taking all of the opinions into consideration as well.

(to you, the asker) thanks for asking this question.. ;)
the medical experts say no, but only you can determine what is best for your baby. if you do choose to, make sure you either put on your hand first and then on baby or in the diaper before putting it on. i use it on my baby every diaper change, and under the chin when he is having a messy day. was told to use vasoline, but that made the redness worse

huggies makes a liquid powder now, its not as good as cornstarch baby powder, but effective.
    ';The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) takes a position that it is not safe to use baby powder. For care of diaper rash, the Academy writes that parents should ';not use talcum or baby powder because they could cause breathing problems in an infant.';

We do not see this problem often anymore for two reasons:

    1) Pediatricians have been discouraging the use of baby powders and consequently most of today's parents are not using this product for the treatment and prevention of diaper rash.

2)The baby powder dispensers are better made now and control the outflow of the powder. But accidents (spills) still occur and children still end up with aspiration pneumonitis (breathing problems) from baby powder.

    It is not worth the risk! Pediatricians much prefer the use of protective ointment or creams for the control and treatment of diaper rash. ';

To answer an anwering post...talc has a possible link to ovarian cancer, but to be fair many baby powders no longer contain talc.
There has been some debate about using powder on babies. It has been suggested that it may cause cancer, more so in little girls (because of a particular ingredient in the powder which I can't recall at the moment.)

The other reason against powder is that a baby may grab the container, spill powder onto it's face and inhale it into their lungs.

However, if you want to use powder it's up to you, just keep it safe out of your baby's reach. There are also lots of baby powders that use only natural ingredients, if the first point worries you.
I have had 2 kids and i put baby powder on both of them and there is nothing wrong with them.I was careful when i used powder to put on them, what i did was i put a little baby powder on my hand and rubbed it in a little then i rubbed my hand over my babies belly and back the didn't get any up their nose or anything,It is up to you what you want to do but i used it and my kids are OK and they are healthy.

    i love fairy
fairy is probably the main one and you can get fairy fabric conditioner as well
I would use the Ecover brand of liquid. Nothing nasty in there at all. Available from all leading supermarkets.
Ecover; comes in liquid or powder with natural ingredients only. I've used it for years and is the only one I'd recommend, and not just for babies; for the planet..
persil 101% but be carefull this can still be stong for the wee one
its got to be fairy for me or persil non bio it smells lovely and is so soft on babys skin (iv had my 3rd baby 7weeks ago)
My son had eczema when he was a child and he had sensitive skin, so I used Fairy non-biological washing liquid. If you use fabric softener, try Comfort Pure as thats gentle too.

My son has grown out of the eczema but I still use Fairy and Comfort Pure.

    Good luck xx
the best one to use is fairy laundry powder and now they do a fairy fabric conditioner as well. my little girl suffers with sensitive skin, and this is the only one that ive found that doesn't irritate her skin. hope all go's well and congratulations on having a little one. all the best for the future xx
Fairy, or Persil non bio, Persil has less suds.
A non-bio brand, we use Persil
Almat is the best in the world, and the nappies with frogs on.
I'd recommend fairy liquitabs and comfort pure. I've always used fairy products, and two of my kids have eczema.
my son had eczema and i tried all the non bio's fairy, persil you name it the one that was the best for him was arial non bio.
ecover is a good one also ecover bleach for the whites. there is filetti (think thats how you spell it) i get it in sainsburys but thats especially for babies. good luck with your baby!!!
I always used Persil non-biological and had no problems. Most powders should be fine, as long as they are non-bio - it's better for their skin than biological.

If chili powder comes from powdered chilis, where does baby powder come from?

I'm scared what will happen if I add water to this stuff. If chili powder comes from powdered chilis, where does baby powder come from?
It comes from talc or corn starch, not to worry the water will just bead off. I'm feeling very literal and concrete with this question. What you ask is what you get kinda sorta. If chili powder comes from powdered chilis, where does baby powder come from?
Garlic powder is powdered garlic, it's a logical progression. Somewhat twisted, but, logic is logic. I would not add water, just to be on the safe side : )
    This is a tough way to find out about where babies come from, isn't it Bill? I thought for sure your dad...or your wife, would have explained this to you by now. %26lt;g%26gt;
Everyone will say babies, but it's actually a scam... you think you are using babies but most of the stuff you buy are made from syphilitic camels. Disgusting right?
mostly it is made from imports from Indonesia and some other third world counties, but in America there is a thriving trade in baby's in such states as Alabama and Texas... what
You know that some drug dealers cut coke with baby powder, don't you? Well, I am not snorting any more coke. Don't need another reason for being paranoid, thanks buddy

    Curash Baby Powder Causes Cancer?

I was at a baby shower and a lady there said that Curash is known to causes cancer. Is she fair dinkum?! I'm about to have a baby myself soon and I thought this would be on of the safest things to use (although I'm a talc fan anyway). I'd like any information anyone has to prove her right or wrong!

They say that it's actually TALC that can lead to cancer. I've read a few different things on this topic and have decided to steer clear of talc altogether for my little one just to be on the safe side.. If you are after a baby powder try using ones that contain cornstarch instead of talc you'll actually find bubbies skin alot softer from it aswell.... Also i see you live in oz try getting the cornstarch powder from a shop called The Natural Source their products are awesome it's an Australian company the link is listed below...Curash Baby Powder Causes Cancer?

Personally, I don't use any powders as talcs have been linked to reproductive problems/ cancers and the dust from powders accumulates in the baby's lungs. The barrier method is superior to me. Plain vasiline works and is perfectly safe.... look under diaper creams. I use Boudreaux Butt Cream right now, but I'm gonna change to something with a safer rating when it runs out.
I know they say baby powders in general increase the risk of cancers in females.

i have pica, i love eating baby powder an when i crave it, i can't stop eating it, can anyone tell me what i can eat instead? What can i eat instead of baby powder?
The reason you maybe doing this if you are not pregnant is that you might be lacking calcium.I use to do the same thing when I was a teenager I would eat baby powder for years. I just had to make a conscious effort as to what I was really doing to my body.It was only when I started taking calcium that the craving went away. Please see a doctor to find out the reason behind your craving. Good luckWhat can i eat instead of baby powder?
Taking a high quality prenatal vitamin and mineral will stop this unhealthy craving and the pica. Increase the protein you are eating as well to further increase your mineral storage.

Try eating real food but close your eyes and pretend it is baby powder.
When you have pica your body craves nutrients that are needed.
Sounds like you need a really good vitimin. You could try cornstarch it is almost like baby powder.

best thing to do would be to ring the doc just to be sure. keep a close eye on him, be more careful in futureThere is a baby used 2 months expired milk powder what will happen?is there anything would be poisoning?
I dont think so. I think the milk could be good for a while after the expiration date. But call a nurse or doctor to make sure.
Keep your eye on him. If he is sick then take him to the doctors immediately. I doubt it though. I would imagine the worst that could happen would be a bad tummy ache. But throw that formula away straight away.
I really don't think you have anything to worry about. Usually the dates on stuff means that it is best to use by then. I am sure you are not the first mom to use out of date formula by mistake. The only thing that would be different is that it might not be as potent as it normally would be. If you are really worried about it call poision control they can tell you right off.
mhmm,, idkk. the best thing to do would be to call a doctor immediantly! I hope everything goes well and the baby is fine! good luckk!

When do i use baby powder on my baby?

when would i use baby powder on my baby and what exactly is baby powder for?? please anyone help!!!When do i use baby powder on my baby?
Well you can use baby powder after every wash and also at the time of changing your babies nappy.

Baby powder helps to keep the skin dry which will help to prevent nappy rash. I also love to use it as it also smells so nice!

However, you should be using corn starch baby powder and not powder that is made from talc, as it can cause cancer. This website explains why you shouldn't use Talcum powder.

    http://www.preventcancer.com/consumers/c鈥?/a>

If you live in australia, Johnson%26amp;Johnson corn starch baby powder can be bought from any supermarkets and chemist.

I hope this helps you! All the best. When do i use baby powder on my baby?
Use it as foot powder for yourself. It's entirely unnecessary on a baby, and there're too many unanswered questions about how healthy it is for a baby to inhale even the cornstarch variety.

The theory is that you powder their bottoms a bit after a wipe, but pee + powder = wet powder mess, not a dry bottom.
Baby powder is not recommended for babies because the dust can get into the baby's lungs. It is made from talc and used on baby's bottoms. However, just change your baby often to keep her as dry as possible.
i read that baby powder is bad for babies. the powder can get in the air and be inhaled. it was used for moisture.

huggies makes a liquid powder (its liquid for then dries into powder). it is supposed to absorb moisture, but it is not necessary.
    Don't use baby powder.

It absorbs moisture, but doctors advise against its use now.

You can use petroleum jelly, a vitamin barrier cream, or nothing. Just change the diaper often.
I would never use it. It contains aluminium. It dries out the babies skin after a bath or during a nappy change, surely thats proof that you should't use it..
when i change my daughters diapers i put powder on her bottom, however you can't get it 'in' little girls private areas it will cause a major rash and can lead to infection.

also when we get out of the tub she knows that she gets powder.

tip: when buying powder beware of lavender scents, and others that 'prove calm nights' if this gets up babys nose, it can cause respitory infections
Totally unnecessary. The best thing to help against a diaper rash is changing a diaper, and a little bit of air time.

How long should I breastfeed my baby? How to make the transition from mum's to milk powder or fresh milk?

It is said that mum's milk lacks enough nutrition for baby's growth after he gets 6 month. Milk power or fresh milk should be adopted. But my boy doesn't accept either no matter how hard we try. Actually I've got enough milk and adequate time for him, but I am not sure how long I should feed him? Is there psychological impact on the prolonged milk-feeding? If I should stop feeding him, how can I make a smooth transition? It seems very difficult for me. Thank you.How long should I breastfeed my baby? How to make the transition from mum's to milk powder or fresh milk?
Current advise is that children under one should not be given fresh milk. If you want to try weaning your son onto another milk other than breast milk then you should use powder milk or ready made cartons. It is much closer, nutritionally, to breast milk than cows milk is.

Cows milk is for baby cows and is actually very difficult for young babies to digest. Humans do have a degree of lactose intolerance.

I give my son full fat goats milk as this again is closer to human milk than cows and also is proven to help with skin irritations, tummy problems and problem sleepers.

I starting stopping breast feeds with my son when he was 9 months (it was becoming increasingly hard to keep him on the breast as he was getting distracted and bored) and replaced each feed that I dropped with a bottle of ready made formula and once he got to one, I replaced the formula with cows milk. I changed him to goats milk when he 2 when i read about the benefits of it.

I was lucky that he accepted the change each time with no problems. If your son doesn't like the change, try mixing the two, just adding a small amount of formula at first and build it up slowly over the weeks so he doesn't really notice.

Often (like what happened to me) the child dictates when they want to stop feeding. There is too much going on in the world for them to want to lie and look at your boobs for a whole feed.

Try and trust your own and your sons instincts and go with what feels right for you both.

Good Luck xxHow long should I breastfeed my baby? How to make the transition from mum's to milk powder or fresh milk?
11 or 12 months, thats when I was told to put my kids on cows milk.
I've never heard that a mother's milk lacks nutrition. I didn't think you were supposed to give cow's milk to babies less than a year old?

    http://www.breastfeeding.nhs.uk/en/fe/pa鈥?/a>
The WHO (world health organisation) recommend a baby to be breastfed for 2 years minimum. If you and your baby are happy to keep breastfeeding then just keep going. Also Cow's milk should not be used as a baby's main drink until after 12 months, if you want to move over to bottles you would have to use formula.
I have never heard that mothers milk lacks nutrition for the baby after 6 months. I know it is recommended that a baby be breastfed until at least 6 months. But there is no harm in feeding them longer. I know women who have breastfed until their baby is 2 yrs and there have been no psychological effects on the kids. A lot of babies will ween themselves when they are ready. If your son doesn't then I'd say do it as long as you feel comfortable with if. Plus breast milk increases the babies immune system. A week after I stopped breastfeeding my daughter she got her first cold. Once he is a year old he doesn't need breast milk or formula so you should be able to get him off the breast pretty easily at that point. Good luck!!
The milk running out of nutrition os one of those old wives tales that you still hear occasionally.

The truth is that breastmilk is chocked FULL of nutrition! Even at 6+ months of age.

You can continue breastfeeding as long as you and baby feel comfortable. Natural weaning age for most little ones is over a year old. Usually around 2.

Just keep breastfeeding and slowly introduce a sippy cup with water, or juice and start solids very slowly and in no time you will be on the right track to a healthy toddler diet while still breastfeeding and providing you baby with moms best!
ACTUALLY, the AAP recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 mos and then CONTINUING to breastfeed for AT LEAST the first entire year with the addition of solid foods (no other milks needed), and thereafter as long as mom and baby want.

    The AAP policy states, ';There is no upper limit to the duration of breastfeeding and no evidence of psychologic or developmental harm from breastfeeding into the third year of life or longer.';
breast milk is fine but you have too start giving you babies solids after 6 months i feed my frist too 14 months breast milk with solids and i am feeding my second and she is 10 months you can start feeding your baby cows milk from 1 breast or formula are the best thing nad food for your baby
Breast milk is the best for a baby. You should at least breast feed your baby until he is 1 year old. Breast milk actually has more nutrients than powdered or fresh milk.

I transitioned my son to formula at 6 months because my job wouldn't allow for pumping anymore (next time I'll try and go longer.) But anyways, in order to get him to like formula, I had to repeatedly try and try to get him to taste it. Even if he only drank 1 ounce. Then I'd give him more of my milk to fill him, but eventually he took the formula just fine. There are several kinds of formula, so try each of them if you don't think he likes 1 or the other... but you have to try each one for a couple days to really see. Don't just try them once.

There is no negative psychological impact of prolonged breastfeeding, especially if its only to a year or so. This is how women have fed their children for thousands of years. Yes formula is adequate, but breastfeeding is natural and perfect for your baby.

I don't think you should introduce cow's milk until at least 10-12 months. You could cause an allergic reaction and that would have HUGE ramifications later in life. What is the rush?

Trust your instinct and good luck!
you feed him as long as you want dont let anyone tell you when to stop never put them streight on to cows milk try bay milk for hungry babys he might wont the milk but not lke the teat as when they are breast fed they are much fusser than not try lots of teats but a good one to try is nuk they are like a breast shape just strat him on one bottle a day then build it up even if he is only taking i oz just buid it up hope thats helped
ok breast is best... blah blah

I bottle fed all mine with artifical milk from birth and they are fine LOL..

I started cows milk around 6/12mths slowly and they were fine.

    Maybe ask yr doctor hun.

Drying out your skin under your armpits and stopping it from sweating will cause all sorts of problems for you. It is better to get a good deodorant and use that instead. Use a spray rather than a gel or solid. They make mini-sprays too now, so you can carry an emergency sprayer with you in your purse.

For best scenting, look for a Body Spray rather than a generalized deodorant. These you spray all over, not just under the armpits, and can also help mitigate the overall smell. Can i use baby powder as a deodorant? world it work?
I've had a dermatologist tell me it would probably dry your skin after you sweat so it might work to keep you from sweating, but it probably won't work as a deodorant unless you use a scented kind. What is the difference between alum( like salt) and ammonium alum (like baby powder)?

also, what is ammonium alum used for? i bought it in the supermarket. all the label says is ';do not ingest'; it doesn't have uses or directions on it. cal someone please help me?? thanks a bunchWhat is the difference between alum( like salt) and ammonium alum (like baby powder)?
    What is alum?

Alum is a salt that in chemistry is a combination of an alkali metal, such as sodium, potassium, or ammonium and a trivalent metal, such as aluminum, iron, or chromium. The most common form, potassium aluminum sulfate, or potash alum, is one form that has been used in food processing. Another, sodium aluminum sulfate, is an ingredient in commercially produced baking powder. (Have you never noticed the faint metallic taste in baking powder? It comes from the alum.)

The potassium-based alum has been used to produce crisp cucumber and watermelon-rind pickles as well as maraschino cherries, where the aluminum ions strengthen the fruits' cell-wall pectins.

Alum is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as a food additive, but in large quantities 鈥?well, an ounce or more 鈥?it is toxic to humans. As a result, efforts have been made and are being made to wean us of our alum dependency. The U.S. Department of Agriculture says that if good quality produce and modern canning methods are employed, there is no need to use alum to bolster the crispness of our pickles and cherries. In any event, the department says, even if alum is used to soak the pickles, it should not be used in the final pickling liquid

    http://www.ochef.com/1080.htm

Ammonium alum (NH4Al(SO4)2路12H2O) or ammonium aluminium sulfate dodecahydrate is a white crystalline double sulfate of aluminium, used in water purification, in vegetable glues, in porcelain cements, in natural deodorants and in tanning, dyeing and in fireproofing textiles. The pH of the solution resulting from the topical application of ammonium alum with perspiration is typically in the slightly acid range, from 4 to 5. It is a popular deodorant because of its high availability and low cost.

i've used baby powder on my face for years and i have pretty sensitive skin. it didn't make me break out BUT i made sure not to put too much on or else, you know, i'd smell like a newborn haha. but i used it by mixing it half/half with my face powder and used it for touch ups on the go.Is baby powder ok for my face?
use the makeup you usually use, and get these oil blotting pads.

Clean and Clear has these REALLY good ones and reduce oil and shine alot! They also do not smudge your make up :)

But you might want to reapply consealer or foundation every once in a while :)
You have to try it first so you can determine if it causes you breakouts.. ei ei ei
i don't recommend using baby powder on your face; instead, just buy some type of Oil cleanser like ' Oil Free Acne Wash' ...it's better for skin like yours and cheaper

  • Does anyone know how many cans of baby formula of Enfamil 38 oz powder will I need for a year?

The baby needs 32oz liquid a day. It's for my baby class.Does anyone know how many cans of baby formula of Enfamil 38 oz powder will I need for a year?
Around 48 cans for the year. Though I have to say that my son has gone though about that and he is only 7 months old.

38oz of powder = 259.5 ounces of formula

Which equals about 8 days worth of formula

Thats about 4 cans a month

Which is 48 cans for the year.Does anyone know how many cans of baby formula of Enfamil 38 oz powder will I need for a year?
Some months my daughter would go through 9 cans a month of formula..other months as she got bigger she'd go through 12-14 cans a month..it depends on how hungry of a baby you have..there is never a set amount of cans each child will go through..if you have a hungry baby obviously you will go through more then someone that has a less hungry baby...also when you start solids my daughter went through even less cans during those months..
do the math. :) baby's never drink the same amount of formula a day, and you should never stock up on one certain kind of formula because if the baby developed an allergy to the formula and you had to switch kinds, that would be a lot of money flushed down the drain
Why are you asking people to do your homework for you?

(Of course, a baby class SHOULD be assuming that baby is breastfed, and would need no formula at all. Classes surely teach you to do what's best for your baby, right?)
this would be a trick question by your teacher, the best answer to write would be that baby's needs of formula intake change all the time therefore that question is unanswerable.
Look at the instructions on how to make it and it should say how many oz of liquid it makes and how many servings per can. Then calculate.
at least 100 more or less but I'm not sure go to the store and find out how much oz that can makes but it should about 100-120 cans depending on how much the baby eats.
    100
If I'm right it should be around 150.

Can i use baby powder in a cloth diaper w/o ruining it?

QUESTION IS FOR PEOPLE THAT KNOW THE ANSWER ONLY!! NO DISPOSABLE ANSWERS!Can i use baby powder in a cloth diaper w/o ruining it?
I raised two infants using cloth diapers and used baby powder on both babies with no harm to either baby or diaper. Can i use baby powder in a cloth diaper w/o ruining it?
I am sure you can, but baby powder is actually bad for the baby. It gets inhaled so it can cause respiratory problems, and it actually is worse for diaper rash. The powder mixes with the wet and makes a paste that sticks to babies skin. You want the moisture to be drawn away from the skin to prevent diaper rash.

I learned this from my First Baby class I took at the hospital. The nurse said she thinks baby should be taken off the market as it poses health hazards.
I personally would'nt use it at all. Its been linked to respiratory problems like asthma and can also cause UTI and yeast infections.
skip the powder, as a few others said. it doesn't help at all. Just stik with Petroleum jelly to lube up his/her butt. It keeps the moisture off their little bottom.
Yes, before disposables came into vogue it was used all the time.
baby powder - as in talc??

if this is the case - it should do no harm to the cloth diaper as it gets absorbed by moisture and tends to disappear quite quickly.
yes it washes right out....make sure you get a talc free powder as talc is bad for baby to breath in, corn starch is a natural powder u Can use.......as for creams and petroleum jelly use those sparingly as greasy things can cause ur diapers to lose absorbency and petroleum can also effect water proof covers
i would think that since cloth diapers are made to be washed it would be perfectly fine although it is not good to use baby powder because the baby can breath in the powder in the air and it could cause serious breathing problems even asthma! ask the babys dr. they may know better!
haha...of course you can use baby powder. you can use a cream for their bottoms too.

It was used to prevent babies from getting rashes. You aren't supposed to use it anymore though. Many baby powders contain talcum powder and it has been found that talcum powder can cause problems. What the heckk is baby powder used for on actual babies!!?
Bottoms and my baby is shall we say well covered, so it comes in handy for all the little folds making sure she completely dry after her bath, if you saw her you would understand lol
    to soak up moisture...

That's why chubby guys use it.. xD

So really it should be called fatty powder.
powdering their butts so they smell fresh and it also helps to avoid diaper rash.
On their legs mostly so their skin doesnt get all chafed and end up with a rash.
You put it on their diaper area so they don't get a rash.
